With a long history of secularism, Azerbaijan has not been prominent in the Islamic world, despite being essentially a Muslim state, with around 95 per cent of the 8.5 million population Muslim. Can this oil-rich state on the shores of the Caspian Sea be put on the map of Islamic finance?
